Plantain covered Chocolate
This idea randomly came to me! I had a friend over for a quick snack when she accidently added some dark chocolate to her hot fried plantains. I was surely an interesting combination that noted immediately! She said the 90 percent chocolate taste was too much for her. (Eyeroll!) For me, the darker is the better!
Over the years, I found a few ways that turn some ordinary fried plantains into something out of the world!
Let me show you one of them now!
- 2 large ripe yellow plantains
- 1 oz of dark fair trade chocolate
- 1/2 teaspoon of sea salt
- 1/2 cup salted caramel sauce
- 1 teaspoon grated lime skin zest
- 1 cup thinly sliced strawberries
- vegetable oil for frying
Warm up the oil on medium.
Slice up the plantains in rounds, fry the until golden.
Drain them. cool, Pat them dry to get rid of the excess oil.
Line them on a microwave safe plate, single layer. With a butter knife, spread the salted on each slice, follow by the chocolate. Sprinkle with the sea salt.
Microwave on high for 15 to 30 seconds, until the <g class="gr_ gr_57 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_run_anim Punctuation only-ins replaceWithoutSep" id="57" data-gr-id="57">chocolate</g> is melted.
Let cool for a moment.
Topped with the strawberry slices, sprinkled with the lime zest.
You can either enjoy right away or chilled in the fridge for crispy and more candy-like version.
